Lady Aggies fall to SOSU in finale

DURANT, Okla. (April 22) - Kylie Ferguson's solo homer in the bottom of the seventh put an abrupt end to the Cameron softball season Saturday. Ferguson's shot gave the Savage Storm a come-from-behind 2-1 victory in the regular season finale for both teams.
Coach Brent Shaw's squad, also lost the first game Saturday by a 2-1 count, finishing the season with an overall record of 23-31. The effort more than doubled the Lady Aggies' win total from the previous year, when the team went 11-31.
Cameron had opportunities to win both games against the 22nd-ranked Savage Storm. Southeastern got out to a 2-0 lead in Saturday's opener, using a pair of RBI doubles by Elicia Marquez. But Cameron scored once in the fifth to cut the lead in half and left the bases loaded in the sixth.
SOSU starter Christina Cearley allowed just three hits in the game to earn the win. Cameron senior Jessica Hutton took the loss, despite allowing just two runs on 11 Southeastern hits.
In Game 2, Cameron grabbed a 1-0 lead on Melinda Farrow's home run in the top of the fourth, as Aggie pitcher Bethany Stefinsky held Southeastern scoreless through the first five innings.
But the Savage Storm tied the game on Jami McAdoo's RBI single in the sixth and won the game when Ferguson led off the bottom of the seventh with her team-leading eighth homer of the year.
Megan Young led Cameron at the plate with a 2-for-3 effort. Stefinsky took the loss on the mound, scattering seven hits and recording one strikeout. Cearley earned the win again for the Savage Storm after entering with the score tied to work the seventh inning. McAdoo allowed five hits and struck out five in six innings of work.
