Lady Aggie softball signs Texas outfielder
LAWTON, Okla. (April 23) – Cameron University head softball coach Brent Shaw has announced the addition of Mesquite, Texas, native Courtney Clifford to the Lady Aggie roster. Clifford has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her career at Cameron beginning with the 2006-07 season.
Clifford joins the Cameron program with a lengthy list of accomplishments at the high school and club level. A two-time all-district selection, the 5-2 right-hander has helped Mesquite’s Poteet High School to a 26-2 start and a district title already this season. Clifford also helped guide the Pirates to a 26-6 record and an appearance in the bi-district title game a year ago. She was named her district’s Newcomer of the Year in 2004, while also earning Academic All-District honors.
In club competition, Clifford was a member of the Tomboys 18U Gold team that finished runner-up out of 134 teams at the American Fastpitch Association National Championships in 2005. She also participated last fall with the 18U Texas Rapid Fire club team. Clifford has a career batting average above .300 in both prep and club play. She is the daughter of Price and Janice Clifford.
Cameron recently completed its 2006 campaign with an overall record of 23-31, more than doubling the team’s win total from the previous season, in Shaw’s first full season as head coach. The Lady Aggies will graduate five seniors this year, including outfielders Melinda Farrow, Jennifer Morse and Bridgett Davis.
