Lovins earns GCAA All-Region honors

Travis LovinsDANIELS, W.Va. (May 18) – Halfway through leading his team in the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf National Championships, Cameron University senior Travis Lovins has already begun collecting postseason accolades. Lovins is one of 11 players named to this year’s PING All-South Central Region squad, which was announced Thursday by the Golf Coaches Association of America.

Lovins entered this week’s national championship tournament leading Cameron with a 72.85 stroke average this season. The Canadian, Texas, native has finished among the Top 10 individuals in 10 of 11 events this season, including winning overall medalist honors at last month’s Cameron-hosted NCAA II South Central Regional Championships at The Territory Golf Club near Duncan, Okla. Lovins also enters Friday's final round of the national tournament, which is being played at The Resort at Glade Springs, tied for seventh place among a field of more than 100 competitors.

After three rounds of play at the national tournament, Cameron was tied for eighth place among the 20 teams participating in the event.

PING All-Region teams are selected based on season-long play. All-Region teams consist of a minimum of 10 players, with any player ranked in the Top 50 nationally in adjusted stroke average automatically named to the squad. Members of the PING All-Region teams move on for consideration for PING All-America honors, which will be announced later this spring.

In addition to the All-Region teams, GCAA officials announced this year’s Eaton Golf Pride Regional Coaches of the Year, as well as the NCAA Division II All-Freshman team, on Thursday. For a complete look at the GCAA award winners, visit the GCAA online at http://gcaa.collegiategolf.com.
