Cross country unveils freshman recruiting class

LAWTON, Okla. (June 19) - Cameron head men's cross country coach Matt Aguero announced Wednesday the addition of four recent high school graduates expected to help the Aggies in their second full season of competition this fall. Area signees Steven Lemons of Duncan and Benjamin Ware of Anadarko join Oklahoma City's Sean Richmond and Tishomingo native Justin Cellum as the newest members of the Aggie squad.

Lemons spent two seasons at Duncan High School, where he earned the Duncan Demon Athletic Award and was a Class 5A regional qualifier as a junior. He also received DHS's Stallion Award in his junior season after transferring to Duncan from North Mesquite (Texas) High School.

Ware earned All-State honors last season at Anadarko High School and was named his team's most valuable runner in each of his final two years with the Warriors. As a senior, Ware also claimed regional track titles in both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter runs. As a member of the Oklahoma/Georgia contingent, Ware also helped his team to a third-place showing at the Down Under Cross Country Relay and was a member of the Oklahoma team that competed in the 2006 North American Indiginous Games in Colorado.

Richmond was named runner of the year in both track and cross country in his senior season at Westmoore High School. He also earned all-conference honors and was a member of the 2003 Westmoore cross country team that received Academic State Champion honors in 2003. A four-year member of the WHS honor roll, Richmond also was a member of the Jaguars' soccer and wrestling teams.

Voted Most Likely to Succeed in his senior class at Tishomingo High School, Cellum was a two-time All-State selection with the Indians while finishing as regional runner-up in 2006. In track, he helped lead THS to back-to-back state titles, as well as a pair of regional championships. He was a two-time state meet runner-up in the 3,200-meter run and won the regional title in the same event as a senior this spring. Cellum, who also earned all-area honorable mention in basketball at Tishomingo, earned a slew of academic honors during his prep career, as well. He was a four-time winner of the THS Top Male Academic Athlete award and was selected for Boys State in 2005. Cellum has also been selected as a Cameron PLUS scholar for the 2006-07 academic year.

Cameron completed its inaugural season of men's cross country with a 15th-place showing at the 2005 NCAA Division II South Central Regional Championships in Abilene, Texas. The Aggies were led by Marlow freshman Matt Moreno, who finished among the top 80 runners in the regional meet.
