McAdams selected as Aggie assistant coach
LAWTON, Okla. (July 5) – Cameron University head men’s basketball coach Maury Leitzke has selected Ryan McAdams to fill the vacant assistant coaching position on the Aggies’ staff. An assistant coach last season at California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, McAdams joins the Cameron staff with more than four years collegiate coaching experience, including three years coaching at the NCAA Division I level.
"Ryan will make a fantastic addition to our staff this season," Leitzke said. "He brings with him a tremendous amount of energy and enthusiasm for the game of basketball and I’m confident he will be a good fit for our program.
"Ryan has spent several years working under the direction of some outstanding college coaches and the skills he has learned working in those programs will be a tremendous benefit to our team," Leitzke added.
In three seasons at Cal Poly, McAdams assisted the Mustangs’ coaching staff with both administrative duties and instruction of players. He assisted with drills while also performing various scouting duties and assisting with the coordination of team travel. He helped the Mustangs to a semifinal appearance in the Big West Conference postseason tournament, losing to eventual conference champion and NCAA tournament participant University of the Pacific. Four Cal Poly players earned individual recognition in the league this season, including first team All-Big West selection Derek Stockalper and conference Freshman of the Year Trae Clark.
McAdams also served one season as assistant coach at Cuesta Community College, coordinating defensive team drills and assembling scouting reports while also participating in on-court instruction. He has also instructed at several camps and clinics, including the Snow Valley Basketball School and the Larry Drew Advanced Guard Academy.
Leitzke was named head coach at Cameron March 27, after serving the previous two seasons as the Aggies’ assistant coach. Cameron has appeared in the NCAA Division II South Central regional rankings each of the past two seasons and finished the 2005-06 campaign with an overall record of 12-15 while competing in the ultra-competitive North Division of the Lone Star Conference. The Aggies dropped eight of their final nine contests by a combined 34 points, including three overtime losses in LSC North play. Cameron took defending South Central Regional Champion Texas A&M-Commerce to overtime twice last season, while four other conference games came down to the final possession.
