Lady Aggie Golfers end season on high note

LAWTON, Okla. (October 17) – The Cameron women’s golf team hosted the Oklahoma Intercollegiate golf tournament this week at the Lawton Country Club. The team finished third out of eight teams with a combined two-day score of 633 (318, 315), six strokes behind second place Texas A&M – Commerce and thirty strokes behind champion Redlands Community College.

“I’m a bit disappointed,” head coach Rick Goodwin said. “We were capable of finishing in second, but my goal was to be better on the second day than we were on the first. It still wasn’t good enough though.”

Cameron was led by senior Laura Madden who finished with a 74 and 76 for the event. Madden competed as an individual and was named to the All-Tournament Team. She finished with a total of four birdies and twenty pars.

Schools such as Dallas Baptist, Southwestern Oklahoma, and Texas A&M-Commerce all traveled to Lawton to compete in the tournament.

Senior Janel Bailey and sophomore Renee Breeze also played well enough to finish in the top twenty, shooting 155 (77, 78) and 161 (81, 80), respectively. Freshman Anna Hataway missed out on the top twenty by just four strokes, and finished at No. 21 overall.

“For a second year program, our season as a whole was a huge positive,” Goodwin said. “People are starting to notice our program as we build our reputation and build off the men’s team. Our scores this year are much better than last year and we are a more solid team.”
