Bronchos hammer Ags with sweep
EDMOND, Oklahoma (April 10) – Having not played since late March, the Cameron Aggie Softball team (17-22, 10-8 LSC) traveled to Edmond this afternoon to take on the University of Central Oklahoma (21-8, 11-3 LSC) in a double-header. The Aggies have won 11 of their last 15 game and are streaking towards the Lone Star Conference playoffs. Unfortunately, they hit a snag today after getting swept by the Bronchos. UCO won the first game 9-3, and took the second 11-3.
In the first game the Aggies got on the board early thanks to a homerun by senior shortstop Stephanie Bour to start the game. She homered to centerfield for her conference-leading eleventh dinger. Bour finished the game after going a team-high 2-4 with the team’s only two RBI. She also had a double, the team’s only extra-base hit.
The Aggies actually tied the game at three in the top of the fifth inning, but six Broncho runs in the final two innings were too much.
Senior Amanda Hibbs pitched the complete game for the Aggies after giving up nine runs on fifteen hits. She faced 35 Broncho batters in the loss, walking two and striking out three.
The other two Aggie hits came courtesy of junior designated hitter Melissa Bour and freshman catcher Callie Schlatter. Both players finished the game 1-3 with a strikeout.
Unbelievably, the second game also started with a leadoff, solo homerun by Stephanie Bour. She extended her conference-leading total to 12 homeruns with the bomb. Bour finished the game 1-3 with her homerun and an RBI.
Cameron took the lead twice in the game, going up 1-0 after the first inning, and 3-1 after the top of the third. The game was tied at three until the Bronchos put up seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. It was called with a run-rule in the middle of the sixth.
Freshman pitcher Ashton McBride pitched the entire game for the loss. She gave up eleven runs on nine hits after facing 25 batters. McBride also walked two.
The Aggies again were only able to muster four hits, coming courtesy of Bour, junior centerfielder Sammi Adams, sophomore secondbaseman Megan Young, and freshman thirdbaseman Courtney Clifford.
Adams and Clifford both finished the game 1-2 with a strikeout. Adams also had a double. Young hit a huge homerun and went 1-2 with a team high two RBI.
The Aggies return home to host the Aggies of Oklahoma Panhandle State University this Friday at 1:00pm at Cameron Field. There are just four home Aggie softball double-headers remaining this season.
