At Cameron, student learning is our top priority, and our commitment to delivering quality educational programs is precisely why Cameron’s students enter the workforce with a competitive advantage. Cameron’s educational programs and resources are evaluated for their effectiveness on an on-going basis. Meeting students’ needs and industry demands is Cameron’s motivation for campus improvements. One such example is Cameron’s new Academic Commons, which serves all students on campus by housing a multidisciplinary tutoring center, new computer laboratories, modern classrooms and a technical helpdesk. Further, the Academic Commons is home to Cameron’s new convergence journalism program—a distinctly unique program which offers journalism students the most relevant experience for today’s ever-fluid media environment. Students will work with all forms of media—converged—and gain a competitive advantage in the workplace.
Commitment to student learning is not something we merely talk about at Cameron University. In Cameron’s recent accreditation visit by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), the agency responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of higher education institutions, the HLC awarded Cameron a 10-year unconditional accreditation. Further, the HLC called Cameron a “role model institution” and stated “student learning is at the center of what it [Cameron] does.” The HLC applauded the university for its ability to “redesign itself to meet changing student needs.”
Because Cameron is confident in the education it offers, the university recently launched an initiative that is first of its kind in Oklahoma and one of the first in the nation: The Cameron University Guarantee. That’s right: Cameron guarantees its education. If a Cameron graduate enters the workplace in his or her field of study and an employer determines the graduate is lacking a skill relevant to his or her major field of study, Cameron will provide additional training at no cost to the student or employer.
Keeping higher education affordable is important to Cameron University, and national feedback tells us we are doing just that. For the past four years, Cameron has earned a prestigious position in U.S. News & World Report’s annual “Best Colleges” report. Cameron has ranked among the top three universities graduating students with the lowest debt. In fact, 68% of Cameron students graduate with no debt at all.
While Cameron offers its students a quality and affordable education, an education at Cameron University is also rich with traditional collegiate experiences. One of Cameron’s primary goals is to offer students “The College Experience of Choice.” To this end, the university has transformed itself from the once small commuter college to a university that offers its student a comprehensive collegiate experience. Physically, Cameron is a different campus than it was only 10 years ago. New state-of-the-art facilities can be seen campus wide. The list includes the McMahon Centennial Complex, the Academic Commons, the School of Business Building, Cameron Village, the Center for Emerging Technology and Entrepreneurial Studies (CETES), the CETES Conference Center, and in the heart of campus grows the Bentley Gardens, Cameron’s green oasis enjoyed by students and community members alike. Cameron is not only a beautiful college campus, but school spirit is also vibrant. Aggie pride can be felt throughout campus. The look and feel of campus have been transformed.
