Cameron University to present “Police Ethics in Oklahoma: A Defense Perspective”

The Cameron University Department of Social Sciences will present “Police Ethics in Oklahoma: A Defense Perspective” featuring attorney Thomas Hosty on Tuesday, December 6. The presentation, which is open to the public at no charge, takes place in the McCasland Ballroom and starts at 9:30 a.m.

Cameron University Foundation celebrates Giving Tuesday with gift from Terry K. Bell Charitable Trust

The Cameron University Foundation celebrates Giving Tuesday, a national day of giving, with a $10,000 gift from the Terry K. Bell Charitable Trust. The gift comes in conjunction with the Foundation’s Annual Fund campaign, “One Word. One Gift.”

Tickets now on sale for Cameron University’s Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration

Tickets are now on sale for Cameron University and Cameron Campus Ministries’ 33rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration banquet. This year’s keynote speaker is social worker, activist and author, Maryum Ali, who will present “Learning from and Applying the Legacy of Muhammad Ali.” The banquet is scheduled for Monday, January 16 at 6:30 p.m. in the Aggie Rec Center. Tickets are $35 for adults and $15 for students and are available by calling Cameron Campus Ministry at 580-583-3109. The deadline to purchase tickets is Monday, January 9.

CU@SC returns with Victorian Tea focusing on Oscar Wilde

Camaraderie, good cheer, good conversation and good food will reign when the CU@SC series returns with “The Other Side of Oscar Wilde: Beyond the Affectations of Wit and Wild.” The Victorian tea, hosted by former Cameron University faculty member Dr. Vivian Thomlinson, takes place on Sunday, December 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. The special event is hosted by the Cameron University School of Arts and Sciences and takes place at the Simmons Center’s Chisholm Hall. Admission is $10 and $5 for children K-12. CU students, faculty and staff are admitted free with valid CU ID. Seating is limited, and reservations are required. To RSVP, call 580-581-2491.

Cameron University to host tree lighting for southwest Oklahoma

Cameron University invites residents of southwest Oklahoma to get into the holiday spirit at CU’s annual tree lighting ceremony and community reception. The event takes place on Tuesday, November 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the McMahon Centennial Complex on the Cameron campus. CU President John McArthur, assisted by Ole Kim, will light the tree shortly after 6 p.m.

Cameron University invites residents of Duncan and the surrounding area to get into the holiday spirit at CU’s annual tree lighting ceremony and community reception. The event takes place on Wednesday, November 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the CU-Duncan campus, located at 3100 W. Bois d’Arc. Cameron University closing for Thanksgiving; Aggie Rec Center hours modified for holiday period

Cameron University will be closed from November 23-25 for celebration of the Thanksgiving holiday. No classes will be held during this time, and administrative offices will be closed. Classes resume and offices re-open for normal business hours on Monday, November 28.

Auditions for “Electra” slated by Cameron University theatre production

Cameron University Concert Band invites all to “An Afternoon At the Movies”

The Cameron University Concert Band takes the stage on Sunday, December 4, to present “An Afternoon At the Movies.” The performance will start at 2 p.m. in the Cameron University Theatre. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for students and senior adults. Cameron students, faculty and staff with CU I.D. are admitted at no charge.

Cameron University’s Dr. E. Ann Nalley receives award for advancing diversity in chemistry

Cameron University’s Dr. E. Ann Nalley, Professor of Chemistry and Clarence E. Page Endowed Chair in Math and Science Education, has been honored with the Stanley C. Israel Regional Award for Advancing Diversity in the Chemical Sciences by the Southwest Regional section of the American Chemical Society.

The Military Friendly® School designation is awarded to the top colleges, universities, community colleges and trade schools in the country that are doing the most to embrace military students, and to dedicate resources to ensure their success both in the classroom and after graduation.

Cameron University Guitar Ensemble to present winter concert

The Cameron University Guitar Ensemble will present a winter concert featuring the works of Bach, Poulenc and Koji Kondo along with Argentinian and Sephardic folk tunes and a Christmas medley on Thursday, December 1 at 7:30 p.m. in the McCutcheon Recital Hall. Featured guitarists are Trevor Campbell and Hannah Esquer, Lawton; Tyler Farmer, Geronimo; Samuel Phillips, Sallisaw; and Wesley Stafford, Gulfport, Miss. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for students/senior citizens/military. Cameron University faculty, staff and students are admitted at no charge with CU I.D. Seating is limited to 80 patrons.

Cameron recognized for minimizing student debt

Cameron University has been recognized as one of the best colleges in the country for minimizing student loan debt, ranking third among schools in Oklahoma, 44th among public colleges and universities nationwide, and 108th among all private and public institutions. The ranking was compiled by the Student Loan Report in its “Student Loan Debt per Graduate by School by State” report for the Class of 2015. The ranking also indicates that only 43 percent of CU students graduate with debt, considerably less than the state average of 58 percent.

Cameron University invites community members to Community/Police forum

The Cameron University Department of Social Sciences will present “Building Relationships between the Community and their Police,” a community forum where community members and law enforcement officials will address pressing issues of concern to both constituencies. The forum takes place on Thursday, November 17 from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Shepler Ballroom and is open to the public. Community participation is encouraged.

Cameron University encourages high school students to enroll now for Spring 2017 concurrent classes

Cameron University is encouraging high school students looking to get a head start on college to take advantage of CU's concurrent enrollment program. Eligible students will receive a tuition waiver scholarship for up to six hours per semester while concurrently enrolled. Spring 2017 classes begin on Monday, January 9. Cameron University to host winter location for Lawton Farmers Market

Local residents seeking fresh produce this winter will be able to find it at Cameron University, thanks to a new collaboration with the Southwest Growers Association. The Lawton Farmers Market will operate each Saturday from 8 a.m. until noon, beginning November 5 and continuing through the end of March 2017 in Cameron’s Animal Sciences Building located on the west side of the 900 block of SW 38th Street. Parking is available adjacent to the building.

Enroll now for Spring 2017 semester at Cameron University

Enrollment is now underway for the Spring 2017 semester at Cameron University. Degree-seeking students must be advised prior to enrolling for the upcoming semester. First-time students, new transfer students, and undeclared students should contact the Academic Advising Center at 580-581-6741 to schedule an appointment. All other students should check AggieAccess to determine their assigned advisor and should meet with that advisor. Classes for the Spring 2017 begin on Monday, January 9.

Cameron University adds minor in Educational Studies

Following approval by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education, Cameron University now offers a minor in Educational Studies. This minor is ideal for students who want to explore teaching or who may be interested in pursuing alternative certification after graduation. It is open to all students except those who are majoring in an approved teacher education program (Social Studies Education, English Education, Mathematics Education, and Music Education).
