Cameron University to present undergraduate science workshop for Native American college students

The Cameron University School of Science and Technology will provide an eight-week summer science workshop for Native American college undergraduates who are majoring in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering, mathematics, computer science and related fields). The workshop, which is made possible through a grant from the National Science Foundation, will take place from June 1 to July 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. In addition, the workshop includes four day-long field trips on Fridays. The workshop is open to students from any college or university. Applications are available in Sciences Complex Room 140 or by calling (580) 581-2308. The registration deadline is May 27; registration is limited to six participants. Participants must be a registered member of a federally recognized American Indian tribe.

Cameron University to present political polling expert Ed Goeas

Cameron University will present political polling expert Ed Goeas (pronounced Go-az), a former Cameron political science major, on Wednesday, May 20 at 5:30 p.m. in the CETES Conference Center. A nationally known leader in the political polling field, Goeas will speak on the bipartisan science and technology of political polling. He will take questions following his presentation, which is open to the public at no charge.

Cameron University staff members selected to receive Pickaxe Award

Cameron University staff members Sean Delcamp and Renee Roach are the recipients of the Spring 2015 semester’s Pickaxe Awards, which recognize full-time Cameron employees whose performance is above and beyond expectations. Delcamp is the Storeroom/Waste coordinator for the Department of Chemistry, Physics and Engineering, and Roach is the Assistant Registrar. Each received a $500 stipend and a commemorative award.

Horinek named Cameron University Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success

Jon Horinek, a 2003 Cameron University graduate, has been selected as the university’s first Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Success. The University of Oklahoma, Cameron University and Rogers State University Board of Regents approved Horinek’s appointment earlier today. Horinek will assume his role effective May 19, 2015.

Cameron University launches “CU Summer,” offering tuition waiver to recent concurrent students for Summer 2015

Cameron University is pleased to announce “CU Summer,” an initiative that will provide financial support for 2015 high school graduates who were concurrently enrolled during their senior year for the Summer 2015 semester. Summer classes begin on Monday, June 1.

Cameron University will honor the class of 2015 during its annual Commencement ceremony at 7:30 p.m., Friday, May 8, at Cameron Stadium. Actor/environmentalist Ed Begley, Jr. will deliver the Commencement address. For many, Commencement represents more than earning a degree. It serves as a personal milestone for achievement and overcoming adversity. Included below are stories of personal accomplishment of a few graduates from the class of 2015.

Cameron University accounting students receive Outstanding Student Award from Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants

Four Cameron University accounting students have been honored with the 2014-15 Outstanding Student Award by the Oklahoma Society of Certified Public Accountants (OSCPA). Amanda Barkheimer, Duncan; Lindsey Billen, Faxon; Ashley Brinck, Lawton, and Monica Martin, Lawton, were each recognized for outstanding academic and co-curricular activities.

Cameron students named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities

More than 60 students from Cameron University have been named to Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges, a highly regarded and long-standing honors program that has recognized outstanding campus leaders for their scholastic and community achievements for more than 60 years.

Cameron University student organization provides endowment to establish Sylvia M. Burgess Service Award

Cameron University has established the Sylvia M. Burgess Service Award, thanks to a $15,000 endowment provided by the Cameron University School of Business and the Cameron chapter of Enactus, a student organization comprised of students, business leaders, and academic leaders who are committed to using the power of entrepreneurial action to transform lives and shape a better, more sustainable world. The Sylvia M. Burgess Service Award is named in honor of Dr. Sylvia M. Burgess, a member of the Cameron faculty who serves as Associate Vice President for Academic Affairs, and who is a former faculty advisor for Students in Free Enterprise, now known as Enactus.

Cameron University earns Tree Campus USA® designation for second year

Cameron University has earned designation as a Tree Campus USA® for the second consecutive year. The national program, launched in 2008 by the Arbor Day Foundation and Toyota, honors colleges and universities and their leaders for promoting healthy trees and engaging students and staff in the spirit of conservation.

Cameron University earns ranking on list of Most Affordable 4-Year Online Programs

Cameron University has earned a ranking in’s list of Most Affordable 4-Year Online Programs, which ranks undergraduate programs across the country. Cameron is ranked #13 among the 50 ranked institutions and is the highest-ranked institution in the state of Oklahoma. The rankings are based on tuition rates for 12 credit-hours of online study. Mandatory fees are not included in the tabulation.
