Cameron tennis ranked #20, #45
SKILLMAN, New Jersey (November 17) – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) recently released their National NCAA Division II fall rankings and once again, both Aggie tennis teams are ranked in the top 50 best teams in the nation. The Aggie men’s team will start the 2010 spring season ranked at #20, while the women will begin at #45 in the country.
“I feel that we are in a good position right now, but we will have the opportunity to move up on both sides,” Head Coach James Helvey said. “We definitely have a lot of talent on both teams and I feel that we will improve as the spring semester goes on. I expect us to improve on our rankings.”
Freshman and top women’s player Amanda Moberg of Sweden is currently ranked at #35 in the nation in singles. Moberg had an outstanding fall season where she reached the semifinals of the Regional tournament and won both the singles and doubles titles at the Lone Star Conference Championship tournament.
Sophomore Thomas Peixoto and senior Diego Troiano, both from Brazil, are nationally ranked at #29 in doubles. The duo recorded some big wins in the fall season, earning them their national ranking.
“I was pleased with how the fall season went,” Coach Helvey said. “I feel confident and look forward to another great spring season of Cameron tennis.”
Both Cameron tennis teams will start their spring season in early February.
