Aggie tennis sweeps away Storm
DURANT, Oklahoma (April 15) –Cameron’s pair of nationally-ranked tennis teams swept their opponents for the second time this week today in Durant, Oklahoma. In the final Lone Star Conference combined match-up for either team, the #11 men and #45 women swept the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm by the scores of 9-0 and 8-1, respectively.
“We played well and I’m pleased with the pair of wins today,” Head Coach James Helvey said. “It’s always nice to win a Lone Star Conference match.”
With the sweep the Aggie men move to 17-8 on the season, while the Cameron women pull back to .500 at 11-11. CU’s women’s team has also lost to Central Oklahoma this week, falling by the score 7-2.
Each of the men’s matches finished extremely quickly, with the Aggies having the upper hand throughout the afternoon. None of CU’s singles matches went to 3 sets as the team dominated the LSC match-up.
Reigning Lone Star Conference men’s tennis Player of the Week, senior Daniel Pazos, was obviously perfect today in both his singles and doubles matches. Today’s pair of wins puts the #14 singles player in the nation at 7-1 on the week.
On the women’s side the Aggies were only unable to close out the #2 doubles match. Every other match went the way of the Black and Gold in another very one-sided team victory.
After today’s matches there is just over a week left in the regular season.
The CU women’s team next travels to Tahlequah, Oklahoma, this weekend to take on a trio of teams on the campus of Northeastern State University. At the quad event Cameron will take on Southwest Baptist at 9:00am on Friday (April 17), Northwest Missouri State at 2:00pm on Friday, and NSU at 9:00am on Saturday (April 18).
With two matches left to go, Cameron’s men take on Dallas Baptist University next Monday (April 20) and then wrap up their regular season next Tuesday (April 21) at the CU Tennis Center against Collin County College. The Aggie women will also take part in the Collin County match, which begins at 2:00pm.
